The Unrelenting Rizpah

To no fault of their own, Rizpah’s 2 sons were hanged; their bodies left to feed the wild beasts. Parents, if you’re facing the trauma of a child who’s ravaged by the repercussions  of sin, take Rizpah’s tenacity to heart! At great peril to herself, this courageous mother stood guard over her sons’ corpses. God is merciful and not willing that any perish, but calls us to repent. Where’s there’s life, there’s hope! Others may give up on your child, and believe all hope is lost, but praying parents can fend off any attack from the enemy of their souls. NO ONE can pray for your child like YOU CAN Mom and Dad!

Scripture: And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night. 2 Sam. 21:10

To Rebel is to Repel

Yet honor me [Saul] now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and beforeIsrael, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God. (I Sam. 15:30)

Once the most humble man in Israel, rebellious Saul was stripped of his kingship. When told of God’s rejection, Saul quickly sidesteps his relationship saying the “Lord THY God.” In stark contrast, David’s vocabulary is replete with relationship in Psalms, “I will love thee, O LORD, my strength, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer; my God…” (18:1-2). Remember, when you rebel, you repel your relationship with God!

The King's "Most Wanted" List

And the king said, Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him? (2 Sam. 9:3)

At age 5, a freak accident handicapped Mephibosheth for life; changing his name from Meribbaal “striver with Baal” to “shame or reproach.” Now he’s on King David’s “Most Wanted” list? Once found, David gracefully extended to Mephibosheth the dubious lifetime honor of sitting at the king’s table. You too are on the King’s “Most Wanted” list! Jesus invites “whosoever will” the eternal privilege of dining at His table saying, “I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me.”

Putting the Brakes On

Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart (Ps. 26:2). Anyone who knows me well knows I’m not a mechanic. I have on occasion changed brakes on cars. When finished, the daunting task of “trying” them out can be frightening. But any work performed must be tried out. God is working on each of us, and at times we need our “reins” tried to “prove” the work is done well. Remember, it’s great to be on the move in God, but there will be times we need the brakes put on to prove the work God’s doing in our life!

Humble Beginnings

Moses started out a basket case. David was a sheepish boy. Solomon was a sleeper. And, Jonah was fish bait. Moses went on to lead Israel to the Promised Land. David was “giant-killing” man after God’s own heart. Solomon was the wisest man of his day. Jonah preached a revival message that saved a nation. Don’t underestimate God’s resourcefulness in your life. He even used a vocal donkey to save a prophet’s life!

The Power of ONE

The POWER of ONE! One bite of the fruit (Adam). One glance over the shoulder (Lot’s Wife). One strike of the rock (Moses). One haircut (Samson). One touch of the Ark (Uzzah). One lustful look at a bathing beauty (David). One selfless act at Calvary. One empty tomb. One Lord. One Faith. One baptism.
