He'll Leave the Light on For You

And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Joshua 10:13 – In another place it says, “let not the sun go down upon your wrath:” Today, while the sun is yet shining, we MUST take vengeance upon the things that are standing between us and our walk with God? He’ll be there to support you, and just like Motel 6…”He’ll leave the light on for you!”

Where God Dwells

God has always desired to commune with His Creation. “Where are you?” God called to a missing Adam in the cool of the day (Gen. 3:8). God inhabits the praises of his people (Ps. 22:3). God is with the humble in spirit (Isa. 57:15). He is close to those with broken heart (Ps. 34:18). Now we have gone from God dwelling around us, near us, or even by our sides, to “Christ in us, the hope of glory (Co. 1:27)!

God Can Sympathize

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin. Heb. 4:15. The shortest verse in the Bible, yet very profound is John 11:35 – Jesus wept. God, robed in flesh was moved to tears for the loss of a friend. I’m glad I serve a God of compassion and mercy who allows me to cast ALL my care upon Him!

Preaching in a Frying Pan

Moreover take thou unto thee an iron pan, and set it for a wall of iron between thee and the city: and set thy face against it…Eze. 4:3 – God called Ezekiel to preach his message to Israel into a frying pan! I know the faces of the unsaved may be intimidating when sharing the Gospel, almost like an “iron skillet,” but tell them anyway. The postage was paid at Calvary folks…you just need to deliver the mail!

A Leader Willing to be Led

And he Moses said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. Ex. 33:15 – As strong of a leader as Moses was, he was also humble enough to know that unless God carried them, their travels were destined for failure. I wonder how many burdens would be lifted and cares would be released, were we to allow God to carry us and leave his proverbial footprints in the sand of our lives?

Ready to Reap

Friends, they that wait on the Lord will renew their strength. You know why you’re so weary in well doing? You’ve forgotten who you’re waiting on! You’ve tried so long to make it on your strength; you’ve grown weary of the promise. You gave up before your reaping season even started. HE IS THE GOD OF THE HARVEST! Don’t stop sowing, don’t stop believing; your reaping season is set to ignite! Wait I say upon the Lord!

Put Postponed Promises in the Potter's Hands

The Psalmist declared, “I will praise you; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Only the God of the universe could form man from clay and breath the breathe of life into him. What lifeless lumps of clay you thought were dilapidated dreams and postponed promises, will you allow God to breath new life into? Leave them on the wheel and let the POTTER perform His artistry. He said, “I will work…who will let me work?

Welcome to Serminutes (Sermonettes)

What’s a “Serminute?”

A one minute spiritual pick-me-up for busy Christians!

When I first started preaching I was tasked with the challenge of preaching not sermons, but “sermonettes.” I’m not certain who coined this word, but my understanding of it means a “bite-sized” sermon that doesn’t take a lot of time getting your point across. I’m definitely not a man of few words. Words are my paint, and paper my palette. So, trying to narrow my words yet get something meaningful across has proven to be quite an undertaking. You know the world we’re living in is face-paced and if you can’t get your fastfood meal in under a minute, you’re tapping your foot. I am aware of that so I’ve devised a plan for you to get a small devotion with a big meaning!

The idea isn’t new and has been embraced by several of my Facebook Friends as “sermonettes.” Of course, you’re only allowed 420 characters. I’ve allowed myself 500 characters (see Revisions below) and dubbed my little snippets “ser-minutes” as a play on the word sermonette or a “sermon in a minute.” It takes me a decent amount of time some days to write these, but it will only take you about a minute to read and hopefully be blessed and encouraged.

Now, for the next little while welcome to the 500 character sermonette I like to call “Ser-minute.” Enjoy the one minute spiritual pick-me-up for busy Christians!   – Rodger

Revision on 4/4/11 – Changed the scope to include 500 characters vs. 420…needed a little more wiggle-room. Hey, it’s still under a minute! Enjoy and God bless.

Revision on 5/4/11 – We’re evolving here folks! We’re doing our level best to confine our creativity and miniaturize our messages, but as we advance we’re seeing a need to broaden our definition a “tad” further. We’re going from a “character count” to now a “word count” format which will be 200 words or less. It’s still a nugget, and well below the “long-winded” writing I’ve been known to do in the past. So, since these are self-imposed guidelines, I’m expanding slightly, but my over all “ONE MINUTE” Mission has not changed. Serminutes – Sermon in a Minute. Thank you for reading and God bless!
